Beautiful circular hike in the landscape shaped by the ice age. The path passes the natural monument Mesnerbichl, a drumlin. Finally, the view opens from the lateral moraine onto Lake Ammersee.

From the parking lot at the end of Kerschlacher Straße in Andechs, an asphalt road leads us first to the hill on which the Stephanskapelle stands. A climb is especially recommended in föhn weather conditions, as the view extends from Benediktenwand in the east to Grünten in the west. Immediately south of the Stephanskapelle, a trail branches off to the south. We hike along pastures inhabited by animals even in winter toward Mesnerbichl. This drumlin has a very special vegetation. A small sign behind the bench explains the ice age context. From here, we now head west toward Kerschlacher Straße (closed trail). After a few meters, a path continues further west onto the Ammersee lateral moraine, and Lake Ammersee lies below us. On the trail, we hike north until entering the next forest. Here we take the right-branching trail and pass the wildlife enclosure and the ice pond on the way back to the parking lot.

    Author’s recommendation

Stop at Hemberger's breakfast café (savory dishes also available) at Hotel Post in Erling. (Thu-Sun 9 am - 4 pm)

Visit the pilgrimage church in Andechs and stop at the Bräustüberl. You may bring your own snacks here; beer must be purchased from the landlord.
