Visiting the caves and the Préhisto-Parc, the border meander circular walk along the Doubs, and possibly a cozy barbecue at the fire pits next to the car park by the cave: all this makes for more than a full day program for the whole family. But those wanting to make the most of the long journey to the westernmost corner of the Pruntrut area are recommended this well-signposted circular walk through the lovely Doubs landscape here as a nice complement. Down by the slowly flowing river, now on French soil, one immerses into a different, a contemplative world. The two river kilometers between the French villages Montjoie-le-Château with its ruin and the 12th century chapel, and Vaufrey appear wonderfully calming to visitors. Probably also because the valley floor here is wide and bright and does not—like on the Swiss side typical for the Doubs—feature deeply incised, wooded and rock-strewn slopes that spread a mysterious, dark atmosphere.
