The well-maintained path, accessible in all seasons, leads through the gentle rolling hills of the Ellwangen mountains. It combines nature and culture: after beautiful forests with old white firs, inns in the quiet villages await the hiker. The highlight, not only topographically, is the baroque pilgrimage church on Schönenberg, built in 1695 by the Vorarlberg master Thumb. From the benches under the old trees in front of the church, one can look over the town of Ellwangen towards the Albtrauf and further to the Dreikaiser mountains, which also greet us repeatedly from afar during the hike. Chapels, wayside shrines, and crosses along the way offer opportunities for contemplation: built only in 1891, the St. Ursula chapel in Stocken contains a baroque altar, and the St. Sebastian chapel in Eigenzell was consecrated as early as 1427, making it the oldest filial chapel of the Schönenberg parish. On nice summer days, the Kressbach reservoir (online ticket required) directly on the route invites visitors to swim.

A visit to the pilgrimage church Schönenberg located on the route completes the beautiful hike.
From the starting point at the pilgrimage church Schönenberg, the route passes the east side into the forest and down the path to the Rotkreuz settlement. We cross the street and follow Einsteinstraße for a short distance until we turn left onto a path and follow this to reach Kressbachsee. Kressbachsee is also the outdoor pool of the town of Ellwangen and invites you to swim. Next, continue to the right, briefly along the road. Then turn right onto the dam, follow the path leading into the forest and slightly uphill. At the forks in the path, continue straight until the 'Knöringen Monument'. Now turn right and follow the path to the second fork. At this fork, turn left and follow the forest path, which is also the Albverein path here. After about 1.5 km, our chapel path branches off to the right in the forest and leads through a beautiful woodland landscape to Stocken. A bench invites you to rest at the Ursula chapel. Shortly after the Ursula chapel, the path leaves the road, turns right, and enters the forest again. Following the good signposting, the path leads uphill and out of the forest. From this height, there are wonderful views towards Ellwangen and the Albtrauf up to the Dreikaiser mountains. The path then continues to Eigenzell. At the entrance to the village, follow Hornbergstraße to the right, which leads to the town center and the St. Sebastian chapel. At the chapel, turn right into Feldbergstraße and follow this downhill into Eigenzeller Heide. Shortly after the wayside shrine on the left, the path turns left and leads back up to the height. After reaching the forest edge, follow the path to the right and then always along the forest edge until you reach the pilgrimage church on Schönenberg again. Once here, benches invite you to rest. From the church, you can again enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the region. The church on Schönenberg with the Loreto chapel is an important pilgrimage church and was completed in 1695. Of particular interest are the richly sculpted ceiling frescoes. On the accessible gallery behind the high altar, a nativity scene set up year-round awaits visitors.
