Chamanna Cluozza - above Murter
The Chamanna Cluozza, the "Cluozza log cabin", is a centerpiece of the national park. The shortest access to this hut, where you can also spend the night, is from Zernez through the Cluozza valley. We take this route (including a decent counter-climb) on the descent. Our approach from parking lot 3 ("Vallun Chafuol") is longer despite the higher starting point, but much more rewarding. It leads over a saddle, which is also a great vantage point (Murter), 2545 m. Herds of chamois can be observed here! On the descent we reach the Chamanna Cluozza. There is an exhibition attached to the log cabin, which provides information about the national park "on site". After an overnight stay, experienced mountain hikers can also undertake long and challenging tours from here, e.g. climb the Piz Quattervals, 3165 m, the only "permitted" high summit in the national park, or cross over to S-chanf in the Upper Engadine via the Fuorcla Val Sassa, 2857 m.
From parking lot 3 "Vallun Chafuol", follow a small path down to the Spöl, which you cross on a wooden bridge high above an impressive gorge. Now head towards Plan Praspöl. Here we take a sharp right turn. In a strenuous, steep ascent with many hairpin bends to the Plan dals Poms plateau. The ascent through a wide basin to the saddle - Murter - is somewhat less strenuous. In the basin, there are many opportunities to observe animals, e.g. whole herds of chamois or marmots right next to the path. There is a marked rest area in the wide saddle; from here we enjoy a beautiful view to the east and west. The view of Piz Nuna and the close-up view of Piz Quattervals, the highest of the few "permitted" peaks in the national park, are particularly impressive. From the saddle we descend, initially a little more gently through meadows (marmots!), then very steeply again, to the Chamanna Cluozza, the log cabin of the national park administration. It is somewhat hidden in a small group of trees.
