The Celtic-Roman Path in the Gleiberg region tells the story of an interesting landscape. The Celts and Romans already valued this central location in the middle of Europe. Vivid Roman and Celtic history and the distinctive castles of Vetzberg and Gleiberg, the view from the observation tower on the Dünsberg (500 m), and the Mathematikum in Gießen guarantee a parade of highlights. The central location and the numerous cultural-historical sites are ideal not only for a hiking weekend.

    Roadbook

    Stage 1: Waldgirmes - Rodheim-Bieber (9.5 km)

Where Romans and Germans lived together peacefully 2,000 years ago, the start of the route is at the Roman Forum. From the bus stop (S), head to the Forum (1); from here, the path is continuously marked with the Celtic-Roman Path logo. The hiking trail goes past a foot pool and along a forest educational trail with numerous information boards uphill to the shelter at the Frauenkreuz (2). At the Hochbehälter signpost (3), continue on the Lahn Hiking Trail to the stage destination at Rodheim-Bieber (not in the elevation profile).

    Stage 2: Rodheim-Bieber - Fellingshausen (14.2 km)

Return to the Hochbehälter (3). The next historically significant destination is the Dünsberg. Passing by beautiful lakes, the Obermühle is reached. The Dünsberg, at almost 500 meters, is the highest mountain in the region. At the top, rest benches and a cool drink reward your effort. The Dünsberg (4) is also a cultural monument as one of the centers of Celtic settlement activity (2nd/1st century BC) – three still well-preserved ring walls are encountered on the descent. At the foot of the mountain is another highlight: a reconstructed Celtic homestead with a Celtic gate (5). The stage destination Fellingshausen can be reached comfortably through the forest.

    Stage 3: Fellingshausen - Gießen (14.1 km)

The path from Fellingshausen (6), past the Toteneiche, through beautiful mixed forest. The Vetzberg castle ruins come into view. One castle is not enough; continue across open fields towards Gleiberg Castle (7). Both castle ruins must be visited, and of course, the views enjoyed. South of Krofdorf, follow the access route marking towards Gießen. One last look at the Gießen region from the Bismarck Tower (8) and soon the Gießen train station (E) is reached.
