This hike has a lot to offer both culturally and geologically. In the parish church of St. Martin we find the famous sandstone figure "Bassenheimer Reiter". It was originally created in 1239 for the Mainz Cathedral. When this fell victim to demolition in 1683, the relief came to Bassenheim, where its significance was only recognized in 1953. The gothic stone relief is one of the most famous depictions of St. Martin in art history and probably comes from the workshops of the Naumburg Masters. The Karmelenberg is one of the numerous Volcano Park stations. Along the trail there are repeatedly information panels about volcanism in the Eifel. The Marienkapelle on the summit of the extinct volcano was built in 1662 by the Imperial Baron Johann Lothar Waldbott of Bassenheim.
