On the wild plateaus of Quercy

Cajarc is a charming community of about 1,000 inhabitants on the Lot River in the southeast of the department. This welcoming place is lively and popular. Due to its location on the Way of St. James, pilgrims can be found here at any time of the year. The hike leads from Cajarc onto the plateau (Causse) and follows the Way of St. James for the first few kilometers. It passes through farmland and pasture, sometimes gentle, sometimes rugged, sometimes windy, sometimes hot. Along the way, there's a grotto with a spring, dolmen, plenty of caselles, and some scattered houses from times past. There are always magnificent views, and wildflower enthusiasts will be delighted.

With your back to the tourist information in Cajarc, turn right and take the D662 uphill towards Larnagol. As it bends left, turn right into Rue Lapeyrade. At the end, near house no. 274, continue straight ahead on the narrow path. It ends at a slightly wider rocky path. Here the yellow marking begins, which accompanies us throughout the hike.We soon walk along the rocky path below the cliffs and steadily uphill. Halfway up, we reach a grotto-like rock overhang with a spring, which, after heavy rains, creates a waterfall visible from the village called Cascade de la Caunhe. It used to power a mill. The path continues uphill, with wonderful views of Cajarc and the Lot valley. At a small viewpoint, the path ends at a road; we follow it to the left. At the fork, take the right branch. The road becomes a gravel path. After some time, it meets a road; here go straight ahead, and after 100 m the gravel path continues to the left. We continue steadily uphill, initially bordered by pretty dry
