a fairly easy loop that touches three peaks (Monte Foldone, Castello della Regina, and Pizzo Cerro) and develops going out through a beautiful forest, while the return is along the ridge through the main peaks.
There are no particular difficulties, except for some steepness on the section that climbs from the saddle after the Valzellina Pass to the Castello della Regina.
There is a refuge near the end of the route (Lupi di Brembilla) and a bivouac at the foot of Monte Foldone.
Along the path - or better, at its edges - there are numerous bird traps (alas...), avoid them to not argue with hunters.
We descend from Castremerio to the little village at the end, beyond the clearing. From here we reach the fountain and start to climb.
At the fork we go right and reach the paved road, closed to traffic, which soon becomes a mule track. A series of hairpin bends takes us to a mountain pasture and then to the Crosnello Pass.
Of the many available paths, we take the one on the left towards Castello della Regina. We climb (about half an hour from the start) to a hunting hut with an attached bird trap. We turn slightly left and then at the fork take the path that goes right and a little further on the left fork, which climbs into the forest instead of descending to the pastures.
This is a slight ascent path that takes about thirty-five minutes to the Valzellina Pass. Here we go right, towards Monte Foldone. After a short fairly flat stretch, the path starts to rise, increasingly steadily with steep hairpin bends, on the side of the mountain.
In twenty minutes we are at the pass. Here the path becomes gentle, we can already see the hut of Monte Foldone a little further on. But before reaching it, on the right, a short detour (7 minutes) takes us to the summit. We descend and reach the hut. There are tables, books, and a sort of little pond here.
We return the same way to the Valzellina Pass. Here we now continue straight, towards Castello della Regina. After some brief ups and downs, the path now gains elevation decisively; it is the steepest section of the route and can be difficult with mud or snow. In about half an hour we reach the summit.
From here we gently descend along the panoramic summit path to a small pass, where a sign tells us the story of the mysterious fortified summit. Time about twenty minutes.
We continue straight on a slight ascent to the Rifugio Lupi di Brembilla and then to the summit of Monte Cerro.
On the left of the summit, a path descends into the forest, passes some bird traps, and leads us to the cemetery of Castremerio (about twenty minutes), from where we return to the car in a few minutes.
