Castle ruin Hrad Velky Saris near Presov - Eastern Slovakia
Ascent to the area of the Vel'ký Šariš castle ruins via the normal route and descent via natural path
From Vel'ký Šariš, optionally on the normal route or – in good weather conditions – on the natural path to the castle ruins area. This path is strenuous due to numerous fallen trees and bushes across the path, but also scenic.
The majority of the route runs through the forest. From the castle area you have some attractive views of the surrounding Šariš region. The castle area is extensive. At the ticket office, you pay a small entrance fee. You can also buy drinks and snacks there
Author’s recommendation
Of course, instead of the natural path, the normal route can be used in both directions
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.

Safety information
In strong wind or after rainfall, as well as on slippery ground, walking on the natural path is strongly discouraged. This requires frequent detours around fallen trees and bushes. Nevertheless, it is not too difficult to find your way back to the path each time
Tips and suggestions
In Slovakia, you buy bus tickets for a certain travel time, e.g. 30 minutes

From the train station, walk through the town following the signs. The church also serves as an orientation point.
