Castelar de la Groa
Rete di Riserve Bondone
An easy route that immerses us in the history of the "Fortress of Trento", in the natural setting of the slopes of Bondone.
The Castelar de la Groa was a stronghold of the fortified line climbing Bondone, and in the surrounding area you can still recognize the defense routes of the countless trenches. Nature has partly reclaimed the space once taken by the military, but the signs left can still be read today by those who venture on this route.

Roadbook
The route starts from Passo Camponzin, where it is possible to find parking space for cars. It can also be reached on foot after getting off at the "Sardagna tornante SP85" stop of the extra-urban bus 202 which connects Trento to Vason; or from Sopramonte following the Sentiero di S.Vili uphill towards the east. The entire area of Castelar de la Groa is affected by the ruins of the artillery stronghold fortifications and the military roads that connected the various positions. From the Pass, take the paved road leading to Maso Camponzin and after a few meters take the dirt road on the left that leads northeast. After passing a junction, start climbing with some hairpin bends until you reach a clearing where some military works in caves are visible. The dirt road narrows and descends along the northern slope of the mountain. Following the "Great War Route" signs, the path enters the forest and reaches a cave, from which a trench branches off along which visitors are encouraged to continue. Now the route climbs along a small valley leading to the military service road to the fortifications. Taking a right, the signs lead to another trench, with other structures nearby. Soon you return to the starting point. Along the route, there are panels describing the natural features characterizing these places. The direction of the visit can also be reversed or even varied if the various branches of the roads are followed: returning to the starting point is by no means difficult.
