From the coastal road in Sougia, we can already spot the hiking destination above the rugged coastal landscape: Far to the east, a chapel sits atop a humped cape. The ruins of a castle built by the Venetians are not yet visible. The Venetians took advantage of the strategically favorable location just below the cape. The well-worn coastal path leading there offers magnificent panoramic views of the wild romantic and entirely uninhabited coastline. The path is marked as part of the long-distance hiking trail E4.
In Sougia, we go past the Galini tavern and the Lotos Café on the waterfront promenade to the east and then turn left onto the concrete path after about 50 m. This path immediately turns sharply right down to the parking lot. We cross a wide riverbed on a concrete ford. 30 m after the parking lot, we take the gravel path that runs parallel inland alongside the riverbed. After about 200 m, it turns right, briefly running along a wire fence. At the entrance gate to a fenced house, we turn right onto a narrow path that runs along the fence past the house and meets a stone wall about 2 m high. Continuing along the fence, an olive grove is crossed. Following the path past some stables, it eventually winds uphill as a rocky old mule track.Shortly after a goat enclosure, we reach a gravel path which we follow uphill.
