Breathtaking deep views open up at the cliff edge on Cap Canaille with the over 300-meter-high rock faces of Falaises de Soubeyrannes. However, stepping onto the outer edge is only allowed on the sections secured with railings, which a warning sign explicitly points out. The highest cliffs in France form the eastern end of the Parc National des Calanques, nearly 40 coastal kilometers from the other end near Marseille.
The second big advantage of this tour is the view over several dozen kilometers of coastline, from the Calanques towards Marseille to the many small coves towards Toulon. The landscape experience is rounded off by the view of the distinctive rock Bec de l’Aigle, which, alongside the old harbor, is the symbol of La Ciotat.
From the Fardeloup stop in La Ciotat, follow the road briefly north. After a left curve, continue to the left about 150 m uphill on asphalt until the road ends at a school. There, keep left and walk past the edge of the buildings. The initially wide path ascends moderately, and through gaps in the trees, views down to the harbor of La Ciotat open up. At a first junction after a few minutes, keep right; at another shortly afterward, turn left. After just under half an hour, reach the Route des Crêtes, the panoramic road between Cassis and La Ciotat. On the other side, a path continues slightly uphill in a southeast direction a few steps further on the right. Michael Wellhausen
