Nature experience with cultural highlight

This long circular tour leaves hardly any wishes unfulfilled in terms of variety. After a leisurely start, it leads down to the old mills of Entrambosríos located deep in the forest valley and then climbs the southern slope of the Sil Valley through a small vineyard with the first major attraction of the tour: From the viewpoints Balcones de Madrid, you look from a bird's eye view into the gorge of the Río Sil, which is cut up to 500 m deep. The cultural highlight is set by the Monasterio de Santa Cristina de Ribas de Sil, hidden in the forest high above the Sil Valley. First mentioned in writing in the 10th century, the Benedictine community developed in the Middle Ages into the most important monastery of the Ribeira Sacra. From the 15th century onwards it lost influence, after an inglorious career as a livestock stable in the 19th century, the carefully restored walls once again appear as a beautiful example of Galician Romanesque.

From the Cañón do Sil campsite, we follow the road uphill (or left parallel to it) through the half-abandoned hamlet of Castro. After about 500 m, shortly after the left turn, we take the forest path to the right and hike uphill between old field walls and on rough, old cobblestones. After a short open section, it goes again in gentle ups and downs through the forest. We pass a forest road diagonally to the left, shortly after a stream. Shortly thereafter, we follow the left turn downhill (not straight on the narrow path), past the dilapidated houses of Chamoso (½ hour from the start). In the right curve, we reach the road between Parada de Sil and the campsite, turn left and leave it after a few meters at the left curve straight ahead on the hiking trail. In more open terrain, the valley of the Río Sil can be glimpsed to the north. At the fork about 500 m after the road, we take the path on the far right. We hike uphill between walls and reach a picnic and fitness area at the top in a
