CAI Dolomiti Bellunesi
Loop trail with limited elevation gain that develops inside the forest and along the panoramic ridges of Monte Doc. It can be hiked either clockwise or counterclockwise; in the first case, the uphill slopes are steeper (although still moderate) but you gain altitude faster, while in the second case the ascent is more gradual.
The pastures of Malga Doc, the 360˚ panoramas from the ridges and summit of Monte Doc, the grazing animals, the ruins and mid-mountain buildings are the main highlights of this itinerary. From the wide summit the view extends from the Venetian plain to Valbelluna, from the Grappa Massif to the Alpago mountains, from the Feltrine and Bellunese Alps to the Asolo Hills, passing some of the most significant Dolomite peaks.
Author’s recommendation
This route, like many others in the area, we have chosen to present with images from the autumn season. We believe that, besides summer, this itinerary shows its best during the last months of the year when clear days are more frequent and the chance to enjoy boundless panoramas is higher.

Roadbook
The trail starts at Col da Fi at the point where the CAI trail 1002 branches off from the forest road and enters the forest towards Milies (995 m).
Following the forest road northeast we come across a CAI arrow inviting us to leave the road and continue right inside the forest. On a trail that is always clearly visible and never difficult, we cover about 2.5 km with some modest ups and downs until we exit the forest and emerge onto the pastures of Malga Doc where a wonderful panorama opens onto the Grappa Massif and Alano di Piave.
We now continue east along the forest road until, five minutes later, we reach a three-way junction; in front of us, hidden behind a tree, is La Forcella (1260 m) which we reach by taking the left branch of the road and continuing with a gentle ascent (3 km, about an hour from the start of the loop).
Following the signs, we now begin the easy ascent of the eastern ridge of Monte Doc from where we admire ever more open and spectacular views of Valbelluna, the Feltrine and Bellunese Alps, and the ridge starting from Malga Garda. Step by step we then reach the summit of Monte Doc (1394 m) where the view is now enriched by the Piave, the Grappa Massif, the Lagorai and, among others, the Civetta and Pelmo.
Although not well marked, the continuation of the trail is intuitive: on very gentle slopes we descend along the wide western ridge of Monte Doc until we pass a couple of ponds and, shortly after, the beautiful Malga Doc de fora (1245 m). At this point we ignore the track continuing westwards with a slight ascent and follow the one that, going southwest, descends towards the forest (a few meters after the start of the descent a white and red trail marker is visible); always on an uncertain but identifiable track with some attention we continue our descent encountering some CAI arrows along the way.
At about 1160 m we re-enter the forest and in about five minutes reach Casera Col da Fi (1078 m). Still descending along the forest and always heading southeast, we then reach in just a few minutes the dirt road and, following it downhill for a couple of minutes, the starting point of the trail.
Directions
The start of the trail at Col da Fi is not reachable by car but only by trail, particularly the 1002 starting from Miliès or from Riva Grassa di Segusino.
