Those seeking the opposite of a forest walk will find it on this tour: It goes across the wide fields and along the huge fields of the eastern Thuringian Basin to Buttstädt, a market town with a long tradition. The expanse of the farmland is divided by characteristic orchard alleys, which unfold their charm especially during the blooming period in spring and the ripening period in October (when you should plan enough time to try the fallen fruit). Historical significance is also noteworthy: the tour route initially follows a historic Via Regia, a formerly privileged trade route connection (here the one between Mainz via Leipzig to Breslau). The undeniable highlight of this tour and a designated jewel is the Camposanto of Buttstädt, a Renaissance-style cemetery with arcades and tombs from the 16th to 19th centuries. It is one of only three such cemeteries left in Germany.
Starting from the eastern outskirts of Nermsdorf, we take the middle of the three departing field paths, passing a town sign announcing the intermediate destination Oberreißen at 3 km distance. We walk under old fruit trees along the historic Via Regia, turn right onto the main street in the center of Oberreißen and take the road to the left after the village towards Willerstedt. After about 1 km, at a tree hedge, we turn left onto a field path. After a few hundred meters, we take the first field path on the left. It leads toward a small forest and to its right along it. We pass through a strip of woodland, walk above a small valley and descend to Niederreißen. At the eastern edge of the village, we keep half-right and discover a track to the right behind a ditch at the lowest point. We walk along the ditch, ignore a first crossing and shortly after its right bend cross to the other side of the ditch by a second crossing, where after 30 m we find a track to the left that parallels the
