On the hike to the Briksdalsbreen, there is repeatedly a great view of the glacier and the roaring meltwater stream that runs along the path down into the valley. An exciting and family-friendly hike.

From the Melkevoll Bretun campsite, the path goes up to the Fjällgasthof. There, a roughly three-kilometer gravel road runs along the meltwater stream up to the glacier tongue. The moderately ascending path is well developed and easy to walk. It is family-friendly and can easily be walked with a dog. The trail leads right at the start over a small bridge in front of a roaring waterfall. At Kleivafossen around 10,000 liters of glacier meltwater flow into the valley per second. At the glacier tongue, there is a small meltwater lake. From there, you have a great view of the Briksdalsbreen. Alternatively, so-called troll cars drive up to the glacier on a parallel route.
Author’s recommendation
The hike to the Briksdalsbreen Glacier, with a short total length of 6.2 kilometers, is ideal for anyone arriving in the early evening at the Melkevoll Bretun campsite. Because with around two hours, including a stop, the hike is still quite doable and the glacier is also less crowded in the evening.
