The starting point is the parking lot behind the dike at the Neuen Lunesiel, where a staircase takes us directly to the top of the dike. The view stretches far to the skyline of Bremerhaven and the harbor facilities lying on the horizon behind it, as well as to the opposite Weser side towards Nordenham. On the land side, the Alte Lune and the extensive grounds of the Luneplate spread out. From here, we can start our tour first along the dike crest and then further on the paved path in front of the dike heading upstream along the Weser. Dense reeds spread out between the river and the path. Flocks of wild geese and other migratory birds fly overhead and settle on the meadow areas and the network of canals in between. Individual side paths lead like dead ends toward the river. After about 3 km, we reach the dike and see a connecting path crossing the grounds to an observation platform. However, we initially stay on the dike and approach the yellow glowing radar tower. Behind it, we get closer to the Weser shore, which is now separated from the path by cow pastures. On the opposite side, the ship docks and industrial areas of Nordenham can be seen. We then reach the storm surge barrier and the tidal polder crisscrossed with creeks. Behind the barrier, we continue a bit further upstream along the Weser and reach the city limits of Bremerhaven and now turn onto the path towards Ueterlande. We cross the Alte Weser again and reach a distinctive observation tower for watching the flocks of birds on the extensive grounds of the Luneplate. After observation and rest, the path continues to an old farmstead with only sparse ruins but recognizable garden areas, where with luck kingfishers can be observed hunting. From here, there is a path running north along the Alte Weser, but it ends on pastures before impassable canals. Therefore, we take the Luneplate path back north in the direction of the Weser and arrive at the second bird observation station and finally back to the dike from which we came. Alternatively, the return path can be chosen on the river side or the land side.
