"Geamo Morenden..."
It is an invitation from the people of Lesachtal to share a snack, a small meal between hard work and effort. Original, rural foods and dishes hold a special place in Lesachtal. And not because it's trendy now. The people in Lesachtal don't care about that at all. Their lives have always been adapted to nature, it sets the rhythm. Lesachtal is not a wealthy valley in a material sense, but it is rich in values and appreciation for nature, rural tradition, and people. "We only produce what we have always made. It is very important for us to remember our roots and traditions. It’s also possible without pesticides, artificial fertilizers, and big factories," the producers of the food and delicacies here are convinced. The term Morende comes, by the way, from Italian or South Tyrol. What do you get with Morende? Organic hay milk cheese, Lesachtal bacon and bread, the Slow Food Presidio product and intangible world cultural heritage. Schlipfkrapfen, traditionally folded filled noodles, Stockplattlan, a layered flour dish made with dried pears, poppy seeds, and honey, organic hay milk, and much more. You can experience and enjoy the original products of Morende today on the Bread and Morende Trail.

A gourmet hike to Lesachtal snack specialties, to original rural foods, to calm and reflection on tradition, but also a hike to special places and spots of Lesachtal.
Along the well over three-and-a-half-hour-long circular route through the Carinthian mountain world, one can wonderfully combine walking and enjoying, hiking and marveling. “Geamo Morenden,” say the people of Lesachtal, meaning a snack or a small intermediate meal one has to hike for. The start of the Bread and Morende Trail is the cultural and leisure facility near Liesing. The path leads down to the Gail, a river that is a natural gem in Lesachtal, undeveloped and charming. Humans have not yet interfered with its course. The name Gail comes from the Celtic designation Gīliā, which means "the foaming one." From here, it goes comfortably over the forest road or via a steeper path through dense forest up to the Steineckenalm, a popular excursion and hiking destination and the first station of the Bread and Morende hiking trail.#Organic Mountain Cheese
We continue hiking over a forest road into the Obergail valley to an idyllic resting place by the Obergailer stream, reach the bee educational trail, follow the signs that introduce us to the world of bees. The bee year, the important work of bees and the beekeeper are simply but comprehensively explained. One can see bee colonies in different hives and a show hive that even lets us explore the queen bee. With plenty of bee knowledge, one arrives at the mill inn and here to the Lesachtal Stockplattlan, a very special sweet dish, a layered lard pastry filled with poppy seeds and dried pears.#Stockplattlan – plenty of honey is needed for the preparation! For those in the mood for a hearty snack, i.e., Morende, with homemade bacon and Lesachtal bread, the next station of the Bread and Morende Trail, the Alpenhotel Wanderniki in the village of Obergail, is recommended. But first, take a moment to stop and marvel, because the idyllic place with its old farmhouses seems like it is from another time. Don’t immediately take your phone and snap a picture; enjoy the moment, be offline! And look forward to a Morende. #Lesachtal Bread and Bacon Just a few meters further at the mountain inn Lahnerhof (station 4 of the Bread and Morende Trail), the famous Lesachtal Schlipfkrapfen are already being prepared. #Lesachtal Schlipfkrapfen
The delightful hike continues along the road to the organic mountain farm Ederhias, lovingly renovated, richly decorated with Lüftlmalerei. Records of this farm date back to 1794, and it has been farmed in the 11th generation. Today, the agricultural focus is on grassland farming and organic hay milk. And this you can enjoy here. It doesn’t get more original than this. #Organic Hay Milk The Bread and Morende hike finally leads down a path through the forest to the cattle bridge and then back to the starting point in Liesing.
