The hike has two faces: On the Fleißbach side east of the Matthiasweg, broad, mostly lightly gravelled forest and woodland paths through the forest; easy to walk without steep climbs, but also not exciting.
After crossing the Matthias ridge trail, you mostly walk on unpaved forest paths; when you reach the rock formation, you walk on trails and stairs "over roots and stones" along bizarre rocks.
