The Bodensteiner Cliffs, made of sandstone, have been shaped into their current form by weathering processes and impress with their distinctive appearance. Right at the beginning of the hike, the Hubertus Chapel at the Jägerhaus is a special sight.
This is a circular route, so the route can alternatively be started and ended at any other place along the described path.

The start and end point of this route is the parking lot at the Jägerhaus in Hainberg. Here is also the stamp station 12 "Jägerhaus" of the Northern Harz Foreland Tourist Association.
Since there are steep ascents on partly loose ground at the cliffs, sturdy footwear is required.
From the starting point, the hike leads to the Jägerhaus in Hainberg. This historic excursion restaurant has existed since the early 19th century.
Directly next to the Jägerhaus is the Hubertus Chapel, which was established in 1733 by Johann Friedrich Anton Freiherr von Bocholtz. According to legend, Hubertus was converted at this spot. God appeared to him as a stag with a cross in its antlers.
The hike then continues on a narrow path that winds above the Hubertus Chapel southwards to the shelter at Potsdamer Platz.
The L498 is crossed, and on a paved forest path, the next approximately 1.3 km leads to the Steinberg Hut, which was built in 1975 by the Harz Club Lutter.
The hiking trail passes west of the Steinberg Hut. Shortly afterwards, a narrow path on the left leads steeply uphill to the Gerold Cliff (284 m).
Similarly challenging, the path then goes downhill to follow the path southwards to the Forest Farm. The Forest Farm is circled on the west side, and then the ascent to the Sofa Cliff (259 m) is 'attacked.'
The last elevation meters are almost climbed before reaching the "sofa," where a break is recommended after the most strenuous part of the hike.
The route continues a bit along the cliff, from where about 300 m later the path begins into the valley heading eastwards.
The valley path is a well-paved forest path that leads northwards to the Jägerhaus. On the last section of the valley path, a narrow path follows, ending at the L498.
The last 700 m of the hike must be covered on the asphalt road because the actual hiking trail in the forest, east of the road, is no longer passable.
