The route starts at Terrassonsingel in Bodegraven. There is ample opportunity to park your vehicle here. If you come by public transport, you can start the route from the NS station. You walk 200 meters from there to the Emmakade.
From Terrassonsingel you enter the polder, onto Boerderijweg. After a few hundred meters, you can deviate from the route and walk through the Limespark back and forth. The Limes park is a park recently created and located on the old border of the Roman Empire. There are several information boards in the park that explain that period. If you decide to walk this back and forth, you extend the route by more than 2 kilometers.
Continue following Boerderijweg until you have passed a farm on your left. Just before the end of the road, turn right and walk to the little bridge. This little bridge goes over the Enkele Wiericke. Stay on the path until the end. At the end, turn left onto Weiweg. Then immediately turn right onto Endelkade.
On your left side, you can see a windmill in the distance. This windmill is located at the Put van Broekhoven. The Put van Broekhoven was formed by excavation. The sand from the excavation was used for the construction of the A12 in 1937. A rare Roman helmet was found in this pit during the excavations. A replica of this helmet is located at Willemsplein in Bodegraven. In the area around Willemsplein in Bodegraven, remnants of a Roman Castellum have been discovered.
Walk the entire Endelkade until you reach the Dubbele Wiericke. After crossing the Dubbele Wiericke, immediately turn left and walk through the grass along the water in the direction of Nieuwerbrug aan den Rijn.
Before you arrive in Nieuwerbrug aan den Rijn, you pass the railroad. There is a sign indicating that you are not allowed to pass, as it is forbidden for unauthorized persons. Since this is a path recognized by the municipality/province, you can simply step over the gate and cross the railway. Of course, be careful.
At the end of Wierickepad, turn left onto Graaf Florisweg. After a short 100 meters, you can walk along the Oude Rijn. You follow this path all the way to Bodegraven.
About halfway along the path to Bodegraven, you pass Fort Wierickerschans. Fort Wierickerschans was built in 1673 on the orders of stadtholder Willem III. It is part of the Old Dutch Waterline and is, for strategic reasons, located at the junction of the Oude Rijn and the Enkele Wiericke.
Keep following the Oude Rijn until you can turn left into Korte Nieuwstraat in Bodegraven. At the end of Korte Nieuwstraat, turn left into Wilhelminastraat and then right onto Emmakade.
Follow Emmakade to Broekveldselaan. From there, follow the route back to the place where you parked your car and thus to the start of the route.
