The BlasiusSteig is a circular hiking trail of about 20 km, well signposted and offering beautiful views again and again. A shortcut is signposted with a black arrow; the northern section is described here with this shortcut.
The starting point of the trail is Frickhofen train station, where there is a map of the trail on the street opposite. The trail leads over dirt roads, forest paths and trails, it can be muddy in places. You pass the Eternal Ice, where due to the chimney effect of the local basalt heap you can sometimes even see snow/ice in the tunnels in summer. A sign describes the details. Further up is the Hildegardis rock with a platform from which you can enjoy a beautiful view. Unfortunately, nothing can be seen of the Celtic settlement on the Dornburg, and of the ruins of the Hildegardis Chapel with well only a few stones remain. Without the sign, you would probably miss it. A little further on is the Blasius Chapel, from which you have a wonderful view if it is not hazy; the benches behind the chapel are therefore very popular. At Watzenhahn the hiking trail makes a small detour past the wind turbines to a boundary stone, the Dreiherrenstein. There is also an information board here. After half-circling the basalt quarry, the shortcut to Frickhofen branches off, which mostly goes along a paved road, passing the start of the Way of the Cross to the Blasius Chapel, the stations of which you have already passed by the chapel above.
