The path to Hirschsprung should only be attempted if sure-footed and without fear of heights. You can skip this worthwhile detour and stay on the main hiking trail, descending directly to Blechschmidtenhammer.Tips and suggestions

From the bus stop "Wartehalle Blankenstein" it is only 500 m to the hiking hub in the Franconian Forest. Here, five long-distance hiking routes end or start: Rennsteig (which we hiked in 2016 from Eisenach to Bad Steben), Frankenweg, Franconian Mountain Trail, Frankenwaldsteig, and the Erzgebirge-Vogtland ridgeway, which we now have ahead of us. Today we first head back to Bad Steben. We first follow the Frankenweg and the Frankenwaldsteig up to the Wiedeturm observation tower (549m) with a beautiful view of our starting region. Then we take a small path (only for experienced hikers) to Hirschsprung and further down to the Blechschmidtenhammer. We follow a great path along the Höllenquell water pipeline through the beautiful Selbitz valley to Hölle at the Höllensprudel spring. Until Bad Steben, we hike on various forest and meadow paths.
