The hike through the Schwarzaugraben near Eitental proves that there are many things to discover in the very south of the Waldviertel, almost close to the Danube. It offers tranquillity, untouched nature and a spectacular cataract section and provides the finest impressions of the landscape. You will need alert senses and well-trained legs, as the nine-kilometre route from Eitental via Pöbring to Schwarzau must also be hiked back and there are no refreshment stops along the way.
From Eitental take the road to Seiterndorf through the Mörenzergraben 200 m uphill to the left fork of an asphalt road (small chapel). Follow it (JGR) in the forest southwards uphill to open meadows and then round a corner to the right to a junction (crucifix, bench). Follow the yellow marked natural road straight ahead on the right side of the Schwarzaugraben in a westerly direction gently uphill to a high stand and then to the left fork (bench) of the stairway to the nearby Zwergerlquelle spring. Continue westwards on the now grassy path along the forest slopes to its end. There briefly up on the stairway, then on the footpath to a forest road. Follow it downhill to the left (south), later to the right (west) to the meadows at the bottom of the Schwarzaugraben valley and there to the confluence with the Lohsdorfer Graben. Briefly uphill on its right side, then left across the stream and beyond to the red marked road no. 22 ("Fürnbergsche Poststraße", 18th century). Follow this to the
