As part of the Dolomites High Route No. 2, the Bindelweg (Ladin "Vièl del Pan" = Bread Trail) is one of the best-known hiking trails in the Dolomites. It leads very close to the Queen Marmolada, allowing you to recognize and feel the icy breath and the enormous size of the mountain giant. Thus, it is not the bizarre Dolomite rock formations here that fascinate us, but the mass of a magnificent glacier mountain. You can start the hike at various points. If you want to hike the trail as part of a loop, it is advantageous to choose the Pordoijoch as the starting point.
From the Pordoijoch, follow the wide trail No. 601 (Bindelweg, Ladin "Vièl del Pan") under the east face of Sass Becè along the grassy slopes southward to the saddle south of the summit. Pass left by the green summit P. 2423 (with Rifugio Sass Becè) into the saddle at 2370 m, east of it and there to Rifugio Fredarola with the first view of the Marmolada. Now enjoy a uniquely beautiful high-altitude hike along the southern slopes of Col del Cuc and Cima Crode Larice eastward, mostly level or gently ascending, to the Rifugio Vièl del Pan standing on a scenic shoulder at 2436 m. Take the now narrower trail No. 601 along the slopes of the mushroom-shaped Sasso Cappello and Col de Pausa eastward up and down into the saddle at 2390 m. After the Col de Pausa, look north towards Arabba and the mighty Sella Group. Without crossing the saddle, continue along the slopes uphill, later slightly up or down to the junction at the southern ridge of the Belvedere. Turn left off the high trail No. 601
