- Step from the middle station of the Stubnerkogelbahn (1785 m) via a slightly ascending hiking trail past the Ahornhütte and the Roßhaltlhütte to the Stubneralm (1806 m).
- Here you start the strenuous climb to the Stubnerkogel (2246 m). Follow the Salzburger Almenweg/Gasteiner Trail as closely as possible.
- Catch your breath and enjoy the view from multiple viewing platforms at the mountain station of the Stubnerkogelbahn. Be sure to take a detour over the suspension bridge!
- Now continue via the Zitterauer Scharte (2163 m) to the Tischkogel (2409 m) and the Zitterauer Tisch (2463 m). You take the "Nordgrat" for this.
- After a photo moment at the Zitterauer Tisch, return to the Tischkogel and turn right at the cross (trail no. 130) to the Hirschkarkopfl (2002 m).
- You pass structures to break avalanches. Just before the Hirschkarkopfl, pass between two "walls" to start the descent on the left (if you want to walk to the cross of the Hirschkarkopfl, you must then retrace your steps a bit).
- Afterwards, continue the descent calmly to the middle station of the Stubnerkogelbahn.
