These are the sunny west and southwest slopes of the Main valley, where the vineyard dominates the landscape on rocky Muschelkalk slopes, but rare flowers also bloom. Besides the soil, the dryness and warmth of this landscape favor cultivation and a special flora. Often in late winter there is still snow on the Steigerwald mountains, while the work in the vineyard already begins here and in the neighboring forests the daphne mezereum unfolds its pink blossoms. At this time it is wonderful to hike here. The sun rays penetrate the still leafless forest and the melodious song of the song thrush announces the start of the hiking year. On the way to Kalvarienberg, the route follows a very informative bird-watching path. At the end of the not very strenuous hike, a tour through Karlstadt offers itself. Within the almost completely preserved walls, there is a very worth seeing old town.
