Almost all elements of the Allgäu Alpine landscape are offered here in quick succession. These include the typical wide, undulating farmland, but also quiet clearings, a cozy alpine hut and the remains of walls of once stately castles hidden in the forest. The lively shores of the Großer Alpsee provide a special contrast to this tranquil and still quite original world. The lakeside promenade with its inn, kiosk, boat hire and bathing spots is usually full of a cheerful vacation and bathing atmosphere.
A forest path branches off from Kalvarienbergstraße near Immenstadt about 50 m after the retirement home. We follow it into the forest, keep straight on at the first crossroads and turn left shortly afterwards. A forest road leads somewhat more steeply up the slope of the wooded Dachseck hill and then takes us on a gentler incline to the pastures of the Rothenfelsalpe, 842 m (drinks available). We pass the alpine hut and turn left at a fork. We leave a path signposted towards Immenstadt on the left and walk across the meadow to the edge of the forest. After passing through the pasture fence, we follow the path to the right along the forest and soon across open meadows to Gut Rothenfels, 853m. From there, a short detour leads to the Hugofels ruins and the Rothenfels ruins with an astonishingly steep, wooded slope to the south and a view of the Alpsee.
