Before setting off, we advise you to read the Hiker's Advice section, equip yourself properly, bring provisions, check the weather, and carry a charged phone. In any case, do not overestimate your strength. In the Jura, hikes follow paths and trails on private properties that may also be used for other activities. Please respect the places by staying on marked trails and respecting other users (hikers, mountain bikers, riders, but also forest operators, winegrowers, shepherds…).
Jura is a natural and wild department, please respect the environment you move in: Do not litter, do not make fires, do not pick wildflowers. Respect the tranquility of livestock and wildlife by staying away from herds, keeping your dog on a leash, and closing gates behind you. Inform yourself about biotope protection zones, nature reserves, or Natura 2000 areas where restrictions apply.
In case of forestry work (felling, skidding…), trail work (trail restoration, clearing…) or ongoing hunting zones or driven hunts for your safety, please give up and turn back.
In case of emergency, dial 112 (European emergency number), 15 (emergency medical service) or 18 (firefighters).

The Comtois bell tower of Sainte-Agnès
Comtois bell towers are undoubtedly the signature and the most visible and emblematic element of Jura architecture. The one in Sainte-Agnès is typical of neoclassical architecture, which followed the Gothic period during the 17th century.
It consists of a dome with four counter-curves (called imperial dome) covered with small glazed tiles forming colorful patterns.
Winegrower architecture
Winegrower's house:
A variant of the winegrower's house is commonly seen in the Jura: the polymath winegrower's house. It appears as an agricultural house with three bays: the barn, the stable, and the dwelling house with a cellar that is underground or semi-underground. One or two stone staircases on the façade provide access to the porch, above the cellar entrance and leading to the living area.
Stepped gables: in the region, many houses still have stepped gables called "pas de moineaux" (sparrow steps) or "smoke ladders".
The roof meets a gable which forms steps or ledges, generally topped with a summit stone shaped like a "sugar loaf".
The roof is covered with flat tiles as well as lava roofing, unfortunately disappearing for economic reasons. Roofs generally have flat tiles sometimes replaced by mechanical tiles.
The local stone generally used in this sector: blond limestone for walls, small rubble with dressed stones for window frames.
Dry stone walls topped with half-cylinder cut stones also called donkey backs.
Etymology
Le Pérou: stony ground
Vincelles: small vine
Orchard and vegetable gardening
Going down Fountain Street, you can notice on your right the commune's conservatory orchard and the vegetable garden of the Jardins de la Sonnette.
The Old Mill
Notice the mill with its aqueduct crossing the road and its water wheel.
The washhouse is supplied by a stream of the Sonnette, you can observe that the stream crosses the washhouse!
Enjoy a moment of the tranquillity of the place...this was not the case in the past, a real social hub marked by the sound of the beater and the gossip of the washerwomen!
Val-Sonnette: includes the communes of Vincelles, Grusse, Vercia, Bonnaud.
