Roadbook
Starting from Gasthaus Schnaitl in Schützenstraße in Wang, we head north and after a few hundred meters come across the so-called Fürstenweg, which passes agricultural fields east of Gut Isareck. The church tower of St. George's castle chapel is visible from afar. The castle is privately owned.
Now we take the turnoff to the Kirchfeld residential area, pass by a playground, and reach Ligeder Berg. From there, there is a beautiful view of the Amper and the Isar-Amper bridge. The Ligeder Stadel, a timber-frame building on a masonry base with a hipped roof from 1787, once served as a granary and is now a protected monument.
Only about 250 m away is the St. Laurentius church from the 15th century. We walk a short way down state road 2045, turn right onto Isarstraße, cross the railway crossing, and find ourselves on the Isar-Amper bridge. Here there is a magnificent view of the confluence of the Amper into the Isar. For a refreshment break, there are two places to stop just a few hundred meters further in the Volkmannsdorferau district.
In the middle of the bridge, we descend several stairs to a path running between the two rivers Isar and Amper through light forest. Soon, the route crosses a side arm of the Amper. ***IMPORTANT NOTE:*** This area can be impassable when water levels are high!
Please use the southern side of the bridge along the Isar dam to Moosburg as an alternative, cross Moosburg, and return to the path at Thalbacher Straße. At the sports field in Moosburg, we cross the Amper and continue north, past the former Normstahl site in Thalbach.
On the other side of state road 2085, behind the horse paddocks, we see the former Wittibsmühle monastery estate. The Felshaus e. V. is located here and can be booked for group retreats; the rest of the property is privately owned. Before the Dombauer estate, we turn right toward Landl. The church tower of the medieval St. John the Baptist church in Wang and Isareck Castle are now in sight. Once at Landl, we go left past the small orchard meadow of the community and the Aselmühle. The path now follows Obere Hauptstraße in Wang, crosses the Mauerner Bach, and leads back to the starting point at Gasthaus Schnaitl.
