Benedictusweg

Our hike begins at the monastery parking lot. From here, we walk towards the monastery brewery and turn left onto the street "Zum Schöneck." We follow the forest path downhill to the monastery ponds. Past the monastery estate, with its mighty entrance gate, the path goes slightly uphill along the poplar avenue. We reach the edge of the forest
and continue hiking, while enjoying a great view into the valley of the Schnatterbach. About halfway through our hike, the trail leads us into the forest. After a few meters, we discover burial mounds from around 300 BC. The path gently descends to the edge of the forest and continues along the monastery ponds. At the Teufelsweiher, the path forks and we keep right. Before reaching our starting point, we can admire the Benedictine water chestnut, once considered extinct, in one of the ponds. The route of the Benedictusweg and Planetenweg is identical.
 
WORTH KNOWING – FAMOUS NAMESAKE:
The emeritus Pope Benedict XVI regularly used this path for walks during his stays in Scheyern.
