Benedictine & Panorama Trail Scheyern
Scheyern is simply a world of its own: You can't explain it in just a few lines, nor can you experience it in a single short visit. You can keep coming back to Scheyern – this was also the view of Joseph Ratzinger, who throughout his life visited the venerable Benedictine Abbey, the ancestral seat of the Wittelsbach family, 23 times and repeatedly walked the path now recommended for hiking, known as the "Benedictine Way." And then there is also the "Panorama Trail," which runs north of the Benedictine Way and leads over some scenic hills. You can hike both trails separately or combine them – in any case, a cheerful, enjoyable hike awaits you, which together with a visit to the monastery and a stop at the monastery tavern becomes a great experience.

Immediately afterward, we reach a junction; here you could turn left to Schnepfenberg at the forest edge near the village of Fernhag (an easy 800 m) or continue straight deeper into the Scheyern Forest for a longer loop – however, the official route of the Benedictine Way now leads us right, westward, crossing the ridge and past several Celtic burial mounds. At the crossing path at the forest edge, we turn right (a nice resting place) and hike northeast along the forest edge. Once again we pass
