Circular hiking route with short inclines on sidewalks, paved and natural, partly single-track field paths in the district and land of Rieschweiler.
The circular route starts in the town center of Rieschweiler and leads to the Pottschütthöhe nature reserve. Long sections pass through forests, along fields, horse and sheep pastures. Only at the beginning, to leave the town center, do you use local roads. The highlight of this route is the extraordinary panoramic view from Pottschütthöhe. 21 benches invite you to linger.

Tips and suggestions
The name Bankräubers Route (Bank Robbers' Route) originated from a working group of the Heimatverein 1998 e.V. Rieschweiler-Mühlbach, which refurbished the benches in the community. Observant residents had noticed that benches disappeared almost overnight. It quickly became known that diligent spirits were the robbers repairing, painting, or even renewing the benches. The Bankräuber project now includes about one hundred benches, so it was obvious to connect the benches by hiking routes. True to the motto "one good idea leads to the next good idea," the hiking trail network "Bankräuber Routes" was created in Rieschweiler Mühlbach with 7 hiking routes and different focuses. The "Sellemols" action with its rural scenes, captured on large photos at over 70 former farms, can be found in both districts. A separate route guide with explanations is available from the Heimatverein.
Roadbook
The starting point is Rieschweiler train station. After crossing the bridge over the Schwarzbach, you pass through the shopping street of Rieschweiler to the roundabout in the town center. Straight ahead, you can see the Protestant church in the neo-Gothic style. Along the parish wall, the path leads up Friedhofstraße, past the town hall and the first large photo of the "Sellemols" campaign. Before leaving the town, you will frequently encounter these large photos with rural scenes from times past. At the junction of Hohlweg, the path continues uphill to the elementary school. You walk through the schoolyard, past the Pfaffenberghalle, and follow the path straight into the forest. From here, you get a beautiful view back to the village center. The narrow forest path meets a crossing wider forest trail, which you follow to the left until the next crossing asphalt path. A few meters further on, you find an exposed spot on the left side, the water basin, with benches. From here, there is a beautiful view towards Nünschweiler and Bärenhütte. After a pleasant break, you continue uphill on the paved path to the next unpaved field path. Here you turn left onto the field path, passing an antenna system and the sludge drying facility of the municipal utilities. At the forest edge, a bench offers a nice view of the neighboring town Dellfeld, back to Rieschweiler, or to the height of the B10 with the Bärenhütte. Two seating groups also invite you here for a picnic. The path continues through the beech forest to the next junction. There, turn right past the "Sauweiher" to a paved field path. Turn left and walk along the forest edge, leaving the next bench on the left and leaving the paved path only when it goes straight uphill towards a small blackthorn forest below the Pottschütthöhe. The path becomes narrower and passes through a natural tunnel. You are in a designated nature reserve. At the end of the tunnel, you find the nicest spot on the whole route, the "Beautiful View Bench." In good weather, you can see the Palatinate Forest, the Wasgau, the town of Pirmasens, and France to the south. After the break, you go up a bit more to then take the next field path downhill along a small birch forest. At the end of the meadow path, turn left onto the paved path, which leads steeply down. At the next junction, turn right to the "Hartstirnbank," a bench privately crafted from found objects. Frequent deer visits to the opposite meadow can be observed here. At this meadow, it goes steeply uphill to the crest. There, turn left and walk along the forest edge to the next paved field path. This leads downhill to Lunapark with a group of benches. After a small refreshment, follow a narrow forest path uphill parallel to the Jägerbach towards Rieschweiler. This primeval path meets a wider forest trail, which you follow to the left along a sheep pasture into a beech forest with old trees. Now you need to be a little careful, a narrow path branches off to the left after a while, which you know from the beginning of the hike and take again. Returning to the town, pass the school, go down Friedhofstraße to Bogenstraße, turn left, cross Mühltalstraße at the end of the street, and reach the bus turning area. A small footpath leads you to the roundabout in the town center. From here, take Bahnhofstraße back to the starting point, the train station.
