The Bayreuth circular hiking route runs approximately along the city limits through the following districts and places: Oberpreuschwitz, Unterpreuschwitz, Heinersreuth, Martinsreuth, Gemein, Bindlach, Allersdorf, Friedrichsthal, Höflas, Neunkirchen, Schlehenberg, Ottmannsreuth, Neuenreuth, Bauerngrün, Rödensdorf.
Natural beauties along the route include: Franzosenbruck and Schlosspark Fantaisie (with the natural monuments Katzenstein, Phillippstein, and Oertelfelsen), Emigrantenstein, Teufelsgraben with Teufelsbrücke, Rotmainaue, Forst St. Georgen, Rodersberg and Pensenberg, Geotope Bodenmühlwand (500 m), Upper Rotmain Valley landscape protection area, sandstone outcrops at Rödensdorf, sandstone cliffs at Buchstein.
The route can be walked clockwise or counterclockwise. Public transport allows entry at various points; however, the stops are served with different frequencies.
Possible division into two stages: Geigenreuth to Friedrichsthal (24 km) and back (25.5 km) or Bindlach station to Bauerngrün (25 km) and back (24 km).
Possible division into three stages: Geigenreuth to Bindlach station (17 km), Bindlach station to Neunkirchen (15 km), Neunkirchen to Geigenreuth (18 km).
