The trail continues downhill, this time into the Baybach valley. The path along the stream is a mixture of adventure and hiking fun. Halfway along the trail, the Schmausemühle mill is located directly on the Baybach stream, inviting you to take a break. Just a little later, in the middle of the forest, you will see an abandoned house right by the stream: the Heyweiler Bauernmühle.
The ascent to the Hunsrück plateau awaits. From a rocky ridge, the view extends into the deeply incised Baybach valley. Not far from Heyweiler, you can catch a glimpse of Waldeck Castle on a clear day. Shortly before the end of the tour, a premium view from lofty heights from the "Barreterlay" cliff. From a small, sheltered hut right on the edge of the slope, the last view of the Baybach valley.
The trail has been awarded 95 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.

Roadbook
Now we hike to the nearby Steffenshof, where a detour to the small chapel is worthwhile. We then indulge in the wonderful views, which on a clear day extend far over the Hunsrück heights.
Back in the forest, the path descends into the rustic Prinzbachtal valley. The descent is interrupted by a short, steep climb that leads us to Klöcknerskaul, an old tunnel in the slate rock. We then return to the Prinzbach stream and continue down the valley. An ever clearer murmur heralds greater things to come and, after 4 km, the path actually reaches the Baybach valley itself. On the descent, we look left at the roof of the newly built hikers' hut at Waldecker Mühle. This hut invites us to take a break and linger.
Now it gets adventurous for us, as there are always rugged rocks to climb. In some places, safety ropes help us to overcome these challenges. But it's not just cliffs that enrich this section, there is also a real rock cave on the right above the path. And the mighty rocks continue to impress us as we look upwards.
After 5.7 km, the Schmausemühle invites us to take a welcome break. Refreshed, we continue through the wild and romantic valley. Once again, we have to overcome climbing sections before the trail passes Heyweiler Mühle. Afterwards, a rest area close to the stream awaits us for an open-air picnic. Immediately afterwards, a rocky cliff challenges our climbing skills again before we follow the lively watercourse at a more leisurely pace. At a bend, we leave the Baybach and turn right towards the Frankweiler Bachtal. Here, too, nature pulls out all the stops and the unspoilt combination of stream, rock, waterfall and forest offers hiking pleasure at the highest level.
But soon we are faced with the ascent back to the Hunsrück plateau. The path climbs steeply past rocks and requires a good level of fitness. When we reach a rocky ridge (and bench) almost at the top, a breathtaking view of the Baybach valley rewards us for our efforts. A little later, the path leaves the forest and leads through open meadows, where there are more great views. But once again we return to the forest, where the airy cliff of the Barreterley offers another premium view. The path continues to wind its way to a refuge on the edge of the slope, from where you can get a bird's eye view of the Schmausemühle. We hike almost flat through a sparse mixed forest back to the portal, where this magnificent tour comes to an end.
