From Séranon
Pleasant hike along the ridge above the long plain bordering the famous RD 6085 known as “Route Napoléon,” so named in memory of the emperor’s passage who stopped at the Brondet castle in 1815.
Stretching from East to West and overlooking the surrounding synclines, the Bauroux mountain has served as a refuge habitat from the Neolithic age (caves at the base of the rock faces) to more recent periods (Middle Ages), as evidenced by the historic site of Old Séranon where many ruins of the old fortified village (12th - 13th centuries) are still clearly visible.
The villages of Séranon and Caille add their Provençal atmosphere with houses lined up with their dazzling white limestone facades. Note the striking contrast between the rocky and barren sunny slope of Bauroux and its lush shady side occupied by the vast Défens forest.

From the parking near the gendarmerie, ascend the stairs to Notre-Dame Avenue, follow it eastward for several hundred meters, then turn left towards the town hall. From the town hall square (1,100 m - GR®406-510 - b.192), reach the small road leading to the houses of Curnier by passing above the old and new cemeteries. The actual trail starts at the hairpin before Curnier (1,165 m), then gradually reaches the small plateau (b.214; GR®406-510) just before the Sainte-Brigitte chapel (16th century).
Begin ascending by passing above the ruins of Old Séranon, where numerous wall sections, keystones, and pointed arch windows testify to a significant permanent settlement in the Middle Ages; overgrown by vegetation, these ruins extend up to the Bauroux ridge. From the Old Séranon collet (1,320 m - b.194), follow the ridge line on the right (due east) with an excellent path running just below. This gradually leads to the end of the ascent: the summit of Bauroux (1,644 m).
Then start the faster descent, which leads through beautiful switchbacks in the forest to pass near a reservoir and reach the Bas pass (1,194 m - b.182, 181), skirting the Caille plain on the west (b.180). After crossing the village, walk a few hundred meters on RD 79 (b.197) and easily return to Séranon by taking a good path along the hillside (b.196).
