Ferienregion Nördlicher Bodensee Tourist-Information Pfullendorf
With 441 hectares of undisturbed forest protection area, the Bannwald Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried is the largest Bannwald in Baden-Württemberg to date. Different forest types are allowed to develop naturally here: peat pines in raised bogs, spruces growing on renatured bog areas which partly die off to make room for other forest types, beeches and oaks on mineral soil, and shrubs on former reed meadows. The "Bannwald" circular trail lets you experience the mosaic of various forest types with the special diversity of animal, mushroom, and plant species up close.
A good starting point is the Ulzhausen hiking parking lot. The circular trail is continuously signposted with "Bannwald," partly running on the Burgweiler reed nature trail, where numerous information boards tell about prehistory, peat use, and renaturation of the reed, as well as flora and fauna.
