The traditional grazing area Badberg – Degenmatten – Haselschacher Buck is mainly characterized by dry and semi-dry grasslands. With its lack of water and summer heat, the microclimate in some places already takes on Mediterranean features. The Badberg nature reserve dates back to 1979 in its current extent and serves primarily to preserve the cultural landscape, protect endangered animal and plant species such as the emerald lizard and praying mantis, and maintain the area for research purposes in geology, botany, and zoology. The extensive meadows at the foot of the Eichelspitze are ideal for a leisurely walk starting from the hiking parking lot at Bahlinger Eck.
We begin our walk at the often well-occupied hiking parking lot at Bahlinger Eck, cross the road (K4976) heading south, and first stroll through beautiful high forest, soon over open areas to the summit of Degenmatten. Now turn right to a first-class resting spot and then descend a few meters with a wide view to the west down to the Schofmatten signpost. Here we turn sharply left and head up gently to the Öhmdsmatten saddle with the Robert-Meier hut. For a rest, both the hut itself and a table with benches are available.The path continues below the Eichelspitze along the forest edge a few meters uphill before the unmarked detour to the Haselschacher Buck on the right is worth a visit. From the summit knob, there is the most impressive view of the elongated Badberg. The trail continues to the Blassendobel junction, where we turn left onto a steep path that, after a strenuous but short climb, leads to the summit of Eichelspitze, 521 m.
