Our hike takes us through a region of scenic and historical importance. Groups of Yámana people used to live along the Bahía Lapataia. Their traces are still preserved today in the form of archaeological shell middens in the national park. Bahía Lapataia is located in Tierra del Fuego National Park, around 12 kilometers west of Ushuaia in southern Argentina. The national park was founded in 1960 and still protects the sub-Antarctic forests and coastal landscapes of Tierra del Fuego. The area accessible to visitors is located in the southern part of the park. The tour is not a classic summit hike. Instead, we explore a tranquil coastal landscape with short stretches of forest, wetlands, moorland and open viewpoints along the Beagle Channel. Views of bays, islands and the wooded hills of the national park open up again and again. Southern beech forests, peat bogs and the coastline of the Beagle Channel are typical of the region. The sea here reaches deep into the wooded landscape.
