Staufeneck Castle, with its striking round tower, is Salach’s landmark, visible from afar, and is home to one of the state’s leading restaurants and hotels. In the town itself, the impressive spinning mill building of the former Schachenmayr company bears witness to Salach’s long industrial history.

Roadbook
Both the Staufeneck and Bärenbach loops start at the Stauferlandhalle and lead up to Staufeneck.
After the climb, for a small fee, you can ascend the tower and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Göppingen district. On clear days, the view stretches across the foothills of the Alps all the way to the Stuttgart TV Tower and extends from the Teck to the Hohenstaufen.
The trail winds through lush, near-natural beech forests along the Geißrücken ridge. It’s worth taking a look at the trail’s edge here, as you can discover various beautiful grasses and flowers depending on the season. Occasionally, riders from nearby farms can be seen.
The two loops diverge at the road connecting Salach and Ottenbach. The trail follows this road downhill, past the Etzberg and Schafhof farms. After a short while, we reach the hamlet of Bärenbach, where the chapel at the entrance to the village welcomes us. Right next to the chapel stands Bärenbach’s oldest building, the Deisenhof barn—an Alemannic half-timbered structure dating from 1500.
We pass through the quiet hamlet toward Bärenhöfle and cross the Bärenbach bridge at the dip in the road. The trail leads us through the forest and across meadows, past a wayside cross, and steeply uphill. After turning right, we reach the Kapfhof and enjoy magnificent views of the Hohenstaufen and, later, across the Filstal valley all the way to the Teck. Through a forest, we return to the starting point of the tour, the Stauferlandhalle.
