The path, named after the greatest Slovenian poet of ballads and romances Anton Aškerc, runs through places most closely connected to the poet's childhood and upbringing.
The Aškerč route passes through areas that are historically interesting due to finds from Roman times, the period of Turkish invasions, and events from times when women accused of witchcraft were burned at the stake. Aškerč's homestead in Senožete, now a museum, houses many attractions revealing the way of life in these places in the past.
