A special natural beauty of the lake-scarce Taunus region is the 4,500 square meter Möttauer Weiher. Dreamily, it lies in the valley floor of the Möttbach, against the backdrop of gently shaped forested hills. At the southern tip, a small leisure facility with rest benches, barbecue areas, a playing meadow, and a shelter has been established. The pond is also recommended as a starting point for a contemplative circular hike, shaped by secluded forest paths and peaceful landscapes.
The beginning is from the Möttauer Weiher parking lot on the Wisent marked trail along the west shore. At the end of the lake, we let the Wisent go its way and follow the shore on the other side of the Möttauer Weiher, where immediately Eichblatt and Libelle ascend on the left-hand side in the forest and reach a field above. In a straight line, it goes along the edge of the field until it crosses the blue dot marker. We now follow the new marking to the left through an open landscape with fields and orchards over the district road to the sports field. Up here on the ridge, the view wanders over the softly modulated, small-chambered Solmser Land, dominated by the striking Stoppelberg. On the left, a detour to the lookout platform “Guck ins Loch” over the Diabase Quarry near Altenkirchen is worthwhile (local signage). Back at the sports field, the trail marked with an arrow passes the tennis courts downhill to Altenkirchen, the next stage destination. The town sinks deeply into a valley
