Easy hike with beautiful views through chestnut forests with a stop at the art studio.
We follow hiking trail no. (1) into the natural basin between Kirchberg and Hartenberg.
The gently ascending path leads along the Zeiselbächlein creek and past many saints to the Klausen Chapel.
Since it is too early for a break, we leave the benches behind and after a visit to the chapel, we briefly follow the path back into the forest to a junction where trail (1) turns right. A long climb follows to the Hartenberg. At the summit, after passing the quarry below us on the right, the path divides. We keep right and pause after a few steps on a curved bench at a wonderful viewpoint, where we let our gaze wander over the Rhine Valley. Those who know, know that a spot on the terrace of the Weinstraßenatelier is already waiting below us. Halfway point. From now on, it goes downhill on a path that hugs the slope of the Hartenberg. When we emerge from the forest, the path meets another trail at another viewpoint, onto which we turn sharply to the right. We now follow this trail southward. Shortly thereafter, the view opens to the Rhine Valley and we walk between the forest edge and vineyards towards the outskirts of Königsbach. On the left lies the former residence of opera singer Erika Köth. On the right slope is the Weinstraßenatelier. The former home and studio of painter Ludwig Fellner welcomes us with art, coffee, and cake.
We are guided through the house, which the artist lovingly designed himself, and view the exhibition. The aroma of coffee, homemade cake, and the warm atmosphere invite us to take a break. In bad weather, you can find a cozy table among the pictures. Eventually, unfortunately, we have to move on, but the parking lot is not far. We follow Erika-Köth-Straße into Königsbach. The second cross street is Kapellenstraße. We turn right and after a few steps have reached the parking lot again.

Especially in autumn, it is important to note that leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, and holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may break off afterwards. Especially under adverse weather conditions, natural trails can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you consider certain path sections impassable for you, you should bypass them. Despite the "non-misleading" markings of the premium hiking trails, we always recommend carrying an appropriate hiking map for safety reasons so that you can quickly find a safe area in case of thunderstorms or emergencies. Trail closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Tips and suggestions
Please note our UFFBASSE! - campaign at www.pfalz.de/uffbasse
Fire & Smoking - Making fire, smoking, and grilling are strictly prohibited in the forest and must be avoided! Fires and thus great damage to nature and wildlife can only be prevented this way.
Be considerate on the way - Always behave thoughtfully, kindly, and considerately towards everyone you meet on the way.
Nature conservation - Stay on the designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest no later than dusk to not disturb the rhythm of nocturnal animals.
Picnic & Waste - Remember a garbage bag for the way and take your waste back home. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
Keep dogs on a leash - Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.
