The Arppen forest trail runs through a magnificent, pristine protected forest with trees and other vegetation of different ages. In the forest, you get a good view of the natural life cycle in an authentic environment, and the natural condition forest is an unforgettable experience for many. The Arppen Memorial Forest was established at the request of Niilo Sakari Arppe, who served as the forest manager of the city of Kajaani from 1928 to 1951. The easy-to-walk route has no steep climbs or descents, but the trail is rather narrow, stony, and rooty. The route is well suited for day trips, including families with children and nature enthusiasts. The barred owl nests in the protected area, and a woodpecker also taps industriously on the old pine trees. The route is marked on the ground with blue paint and a few arrows. The direction of travel is counterclockwise.
