The Thinnetal, which is little noticed today, was once an important border region and known and coveted for its ore wealth.
The deep incision of the Thinnetal leads northwest from Klausen to below the Villanderer Alm and the so-called Pfunderer Berg, named after a farm. The valley, rather unknown today, was once the border between the dioceses of Brixen and Trento, later between the County of Tyrol and the Hochamt Brixen. And above all it was a productive mine whose revenues benefited the prince-bishops of Brixen and half to Emperor Barbarossa. Starting point of this longer circular hike is the bridge over the Thinnebach in Klausen. Here you follow the ascent to Säben Monastery (marker 1), walk below the monastery walls and reach the hamlet of Pardell after about an hour. In a further half hour the steeper path No. 1 finally leads to Verdings. From the village square the marker No. 3 leads on farm roads and driveways above the Thinnetal to the west. First moderately descending, then mostly flat, this very beautiful section finally reaches the Mühlele guesthouse and the Garnstein Castle above it
