The Peitlerkofel is an unusual mountain: in this case, not only the summit climb is worthwhile, but also the considerably easier circuit of the striking, pillar-like massif. From the parking lot at Würzjoch, simple paths first lead to the Peitlerkofel, which is then circled counterclockwise. This direction is recommended for two reasons: on the one hand, the more challenging sections are mastered right at the beginning, and on the other hand, the pleasantly numerous refreshment opportunities follow in the second half of the route.
Throughout the suggested route, very different types of terrain are encountered. Alpine sections dominate on the west side of the Peitler, followed by an almost idyllic passage between Peitlerscharte and Gömajoch, which fascinates with beautiful panoramic views of the Fanes group and further into the heart of the Dolomites. Along the shaded north flank of the Peitler, the trail then returns from Gömajoch to the starting point, winding on a section through a landslide area that appears almost enchanted. Plenty of variety is guaranteed throughout the entire tour!

The paths and trails used are in good condition. Nevertheless, surefootedness is required on the western section between Peitlerhütte and Peitlerscharte.Tips and suggestions

Right at the parking lot and the bus stop there, a driveway begins in the turning circle, leading south to the Peitler. After just a few minutes, it comes into view for the first time at the edge of a huge basin. Subsequently, the path follows a ridge line, reaches wide alpine pastures, and finally branches near the northern walls of the Peitlerkofel. At this point, keep right and pass the Peitler hut to circle the Peitler counterclockwise. The path becomes narrower and eventually leads as a roughly altitude-maintaining trail through steeper terrain. As soon as another trail joins from the right, the ascent to the notch finally begins. The trail follows a small stream for a while but repeatedly moves aside. With a bit of surefootedness, the occasionally rocky and scree-covered passages can be easily managed. Upon reaching the Peitlerscharte, all difficulties are overcome.
While summit seekers keep left at the Peitlerscharte, the circuit of the Peitler continues straight ahead. For this, follow the initially slightly descending trail, which later becomes a driveway and then essentially maintains altitude and crosses wide alpine pastures. A rule of thumb here is: always keep left at every fork. With beautiful views into the Gadertal and toward the Fanes group, the Vaciarahütte is passed and – of course, continuing to keep left! – the Gömajoch is reached. Here, the trail turns sharply west and noticeably loses altitude. Soon it ascends slightly again toward the Gömahütte. After another alpine meadow passage, the trail enters unsettled, forested terrain. With many bends and constant ups and downs, a former landslide area is crossed. Shortly afterward, the view opens up again, and once again over wide meadow areas, the junction between Fornella and Peitler huts known from the morning approach is reached. On now familiar trails, the starting point at Würzjoch is quickly reached.

Directions
The Würzjoch can be easily reached from various directions:
- From the Eisacktal: Take the Brenner motorway A 22 to the Klausen/Gröden junction. After the toll station at the roundabout, take the first exit and proceed to State Road 12. Initially turn right towards Brixen, but after about 2 km turn right and follow the signs to the Villnöß valley. At the height of St. Peter, leave the road running through the valley floor to the left. Good signage continues on state roads to the Würzjoch.
- From the Gadertal: Follow State Road 242 to St. Martin in Thurn. There, turn off and follow the state road through the village and many hairpin bends to Antermoia. The road then narrows, but the Würzjoch can still be reached quickly from there.
Parking
There is a large parking lot directly at the Würzjoch. The parking fee is 5 € (as of September 2020).Coordinates
