The route described here is part of a series of my personal favorites as a hiking guide in the Palatinate Forest. On this route, I want to connect the most beautiful paths with our unique network of forest huts and managed cabins.

The route mostly follows marked paths, but it is not marked as a continuous route. Therefore, I recommend using the GPS data published here.

In the valley after the Windstein viewpoint, you should take the opportunity to also visit Lützelhardt Castle in the Obersteinbach nature reserve on the French side.

Start and end point at the Walthariklause in Petersbächel. From the Walthariklause parking lot, go up to the Zollstock and continue to the Bavarian Windstein viewpoint (3.5 km). From here, the route follows the premium hiking trail "Rumbergsteig" towards Ludwigswinkel for a short stretch. Then it goes up to the Lindelskopf and past the Pfälzerwoog back to conclude at the Walthariklause.

Observe the opening hours of the refreshment options. Additional rest areas without catering are available at the Zollstock shelter (1.2 km) and at the Bavarian Windstein viewpoint (3.5 km).
