Well prepared, we start our hike near Eibenstock. The first highlight will be crossing a dam. The path leads us along the western shore of the reservoir and almost always close to the water to Hundshübel. Here you also find the first opportunity to stop for refreshments. In Hundshübel, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama including the reservoir, Eibenstock, and Auersberg. For this, we take a small detour on the Vichzig past Hundshübel's oldest house, the Nadlerhaus, which can be visited. We cross through the village and continue on beautiful forest paths, passing a footbath facility that can refresh your limbs, up to the main dam of the reservoir. Unfortunately, the dam can only be crossed on special days such as the "Water Day," so now we must take a trail down to the base of the dam at Neidhartsthal, where we cross the Mulde River on a wooden bridge and ascend to Gerstenberg. A mining educational trail here informs us about the formation and early years of mining in this region. Unfortunately, from this point on, the quiet and solitary hike ends, as the last section of our route is about 2 km along a federal road back to the starting point of the hike.
