Štrbské pleso (Tschirmer See) is the second largest lake in the Slovak High Tatras with an area of 19.76 ha, after Veľké Hincovo pleso (20.08 ha). It was formed by the melting of the massive glacier in the Mlynická dolina valley and, as a naturally dammed glacier lake, it has no visible surface inflow or outflow. In recent years, there have been increasing problems with elevated nitrogen and phosphorus levels due to water algae, which in turn has led to a decline in the fish stocked here already in the 19th century. However, divers still discovered a large albino pike alongside numerous trout, pikes, and perches in 2009.

The red-yellow trail leads us along the southern shore. We pass a boat rental and on the left side the new Hotel Kempinski, which was created from the hotels Kriváň and Hviezdoslav built in 1906, and come to probably the most beautiful viewpoint over the entire lake. A panoramic board explains everything visible here (from left to right): Kriváň, Ostrá, Solisko, Mlynická dolina with Štrbský štít, Satan, Patria, Kôpky, Vysoká, Ganek, Rumanov štít, Zlobivá, Ostrva, and Končistá. On the opposite lakeshore, we spot the large ski jump built for the Nordic Ski World Championship in 1970 but no longer in use today. In front of Hotel Solisko, we turn right and follow the blue trail always along the lakeshore. Shortly after, we pass
