Staffelsee, located on the edge of the foothills of the Alps, is a popular local recreation area that invites various activities. Although not very challenging, a leisurely walk around the lake is especially enjoyable: through diverse landscapes, there are always beautiful views over the lake and to the nearby mountains.
Even though the lake has become significantly smaller since its glacial formation, it remains one of the larger lakes in the Bavarian pre-Alpine region. The land areas created by the lowering of the water level are largely peat bogs, which are mostly under nature protection today and provide a habitat for diverse fauna and flora. Particularly in the Obernauer Moos, areas are protected where ground-nesting birds live during the summer half-year. Therefore, a section of the proposed route is not passable from about mid-March to mid-October and must be bypassed during this time.
Starting from Uffing, the proposed route initially leads to the northern part of Staffelsee, called Obersee. The western part, Untersee, is circumnavigated via the former island and now peninsula Steigenberg. Along the shaded south side, the route finally goes towards Murnau and up to the local station, the destination of the proposed route.

From the platform, go right in the direction of travel towards Murnau/Garmisch-Partenkirchen until you reach the junction with the state road. Follow this road again to the right into the town center of Uffing. Directly behind the school located on the left side of the street, a footpath leads south, passing through gardens and eventually reaching Murnauer Straße. Cross this street and continue slightly to the right. Seestraße finally leads out of the town and reaches a birch avenue turning left. Follow this to the shore path and walk to the right on it. Soon the path bends back towards Seestraße; continue following it. After crossing the lake outflow, the Ach, the path veers slightly right and reaches a farm. Here the driving path ends and a small footpath begins, which after a few minutes again reaches and initially follows the lake shore. Soon the path leaves the shore again and arrives at a junction. Continue left here; the path soon turns right again away from the lake. Alongside a small creek, a forest road is reached.
- During the winter half-year go left here and follow the path along the edge of a hill. Passing through a pasture gate, you will soon reach a wide meadow where the tracks fade away, but on the opposite edge a narrow, yet signposted footpath begins. It goes over roots and stones through a narrow strip of forest and onto a small hill with a beautiful view over the lake. Then it descends slightly over possibly damp meadows away from the lake to a driving path; follow this left.
- During the summer half-year or with strollers, the previously described section should be bypassed. Follow the forest road to the right, away from the lake. At the next junction turn left and now go through a forested area. Beyond this, the driving path branches; turn left again here and follow the Ach.
The driving path first crosses the Ach flowing into the Staffelsee and then goes counterclockwise around a beautiful viewpoint hill. Shortly after, the path reaches the foot of the Molasse ridge, which limits the shady and in winter very cold southern shore. Always heading east, follow the now wide driving path to Murnau. In the bay there, the path turns into a street. Near the boat landing, turn left into Seestraße and a few meters later right onto a footpath up the slope. At the top, turn left and shortly after right. Pass under the railway via an underpass and on the other side turn left towards the already visible station.
